Sandy Springs Office Opening
Hundreds of local Democrats flocked to Sandy Springs to hear speeches from Stacey Abrams and Senator Raphael Warnock ahead of the opening of the Sandy Springs office for the coordinated campaign. Micheal was one of dozens of candidates there being introduced as the county’s slate of Democratic candidates for 2022. Not only did Micheal meet Senator Warnock, but he had the chance to meet with several organizations doing critical work on the ground turning out voters ahead of the midterms.

Sign Waving for Taneesha Marshall
Micheal spent part of primary election day helping promote other candidates like Cobb Superior Court Judge candidate Taneesha Marshall. We were at an intersection near South Cobb and Concord outside of a polling location waving signs and encouraging people to come and vote. Dance music included 80s hits and some Mary J. Blige.

Blood Donation in Roswell
Micheal took part in a blood drive for the Red Cross in Roswell hosted by Wellstar East Cobb Park. We are currently in a nationwide shortage of blood of all types. Consider booking an appointment to give blood today.

Canvassing with Candidate Eren Brumley
Micheal spent a Tuesday afternoon in Roswell and Johns Creek canvassing for fellow Latino Democratic State House candidate Eren Brumley ahead of her primary race on May 24. Despite being outraised 10-1, Eren just came up a few hundred votes short in her bid to be the Democratic nominee with an opportunity to be just the second Latina in the Georgia state house.

Canvassing with Candidate Phil Olaleye
Micheal spent a Sunday afternoon in Southeast Atlanta canvassing for fellow Latino Democratic State House candidate Phil Olaleye ahead of his primary race on May 24. Phil eventually won his primary and is likely to be the next representative for District 59.

Canvassing in North Landing Subdivision
The campaign will kick off its first canvassing event of many knocking on doors in the North Landing and surrounding area. Micheal will be out doing this with campaign volunteers along with neighboring State House 44 candidate Willie Mae Oyogoa. We plan to knock on the doors of every voter we need to win this district. Latino Victory Fund Georgia Fundraiser
Latino Victory is an organization dedicated to building political power in the Latino community so that the voices and values of Latinos are reflected at every level of government and in the policies that drive our country forward. Last month, the organization announced the endorsement of its first Georgia candidate slate ahead of the primary election. Micheal attended a fundraiser for these three candidates in support of efforts to strengthen Latino representation in Georgia.

Taste of East Cobb Festival
Taste of East Cobb showcases the best of East Cobb’s local restaurant talent with chefs offering a delicious variety of tastings from their menus. Cobb Democrats had a large presence at the event from state house candidates to candidates for statewide offices to Congressional candidates. Micheal had the chance to meet dozens of members of the community to spread the word about our campaign to flip District 46.

Rally in Marietta Square for Abortion Rights
Micheal attended a rally in Marietta square setup less than 24 hours after the Alito memo was leaked indicating that the Supreme Court would overturn Roe v Wade. Almost two dozen were in attendance while there were several other impromptu rallies throughout the area.

Voter Meet and Greet Social at Gameday
The Cherokee Democrats held a social event for candidates to meet with voters and others in the party at Gameday in Woodstock. Almost two dozen were in attendance, including Congressional District 11 candidate Antonio Daza, State Senate 56 candidate Patrick Thompson, and chair of the Cherokee County Democrats Ginny Lennox.

CCSD School Board Public Comment
During the Cobb County School Board afternoon session, Micheal gave public comment in response to how the district deals with racism, including the teaching of curriculum around diversity and inclusion. This came on the heels of a dozen or more students from Campbell High School urging the board to do more in the face of incidents of racism they’ve experienced personally with other students. Micheal shared a personal story about experiences with racism in elementary school to detail the trauma that children face as a result of these experiences.

Legends in the Making for Planned Parenthood
As a guest of Down Ballot Dems, Micheal attended the annual fundraising gala for Planned Parenthood Southeast held at Zoo Atlanta. Alexis McGill Johnson, President & CEO of Planned Parenthood, gave a rousing speech about the importance of our place in the protection of reproductive rights in an age in which the Supreme Court is likely to substantially weaken Roe v Wade. Micheal is a passionate advocate for protecting the rights of women and people with uteruses to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions. It is Micheal’s firm and unwavering belief that medical decisions around pregnancy are best made between a woman and her doctor.

Dustin McCormick Election Watch Party
Micheal attended Dustin McCormick’s election watch party for the special election in nearby House District 45 covering East Cobb and North Fulton. In attendance were several constituents, elected officials, party leaders and candidates, including Cobb County Commissioner Jerica Richardson, State Representative and candidate for Lieutenant Governor Erick Allen, State Senate candidate Luisa Wakeman, and Cobb Democrats chair Jacquelyn Bettadapur. Dustin will be in the runoff set for early May to finish out the term of retired representative Matt Dollar.

Qualifying at the State Capitol
Micheal took the exciting step of making his candidacy official by going to the State Capitol and qualifying to be on the Democratic primary ballot in May. He wrote: “As I sat there and signed my name for the final time, I could hear and feel the many words of encouragement from family, friends, and those in the community who have put their faith in me to do important work in the state legislature. I look forward to representing the citizens of District 46 and all Georgians.”

Micheal attended a fundraiser in Atlanta for CD-14 Democratic Candidate Holly McCormack, one of three Democrats vying to unseat Marjorie Taylor Greene in northwest Georgia. GA Senate Committee on Cobb Redistricting
Micheal spoke in front of a Georgia State Senate hearing on Cobb Redistricting where the committee voted along party lines to approve county commission and school board maps drafted by a minority of legislators in the county against the wishes of a majority of residents. CCSD School Board Public Comment
During the Cobb County School Board evening session, Micheal gave public comment regarding school board map redistricting, just a day after a House committee voted to move forward a gerrymandered map drawn by a minority of Cobb legislators. After the meeting, board member Randy Scamihorn called Micheal to discuss the map making process that happened under his watch as Board Chair last year and how the board can gain the trust of parents in the county moving forward.

GA House Committee on Cobb Redistricting
Micheal spoke in front of a Georgia State House sub-committee hearing on Cobb Redistricting where at least two dozen Cobb residents and legislators spoke out against school board and commission maps being pushed by Rep. Ginny Ehrhart and our own Rep. John Carson. Only two residents spoke out in favor of the maps. Unfortunately two days later, the full committee voted along party lines to approve the maps and move them forward.

Op-Ed on John Carson's Anti-Teacher Bill
After current representative John Carson introduced HB 888, an anti-teacher bill that defunded school districts, added burdensome requirements of teachers around lesson planning, and denied the existence of systemic racism, Micheal penned an op-ed in the Cobb County Courier.

Donuts with Democrats Event
At the first in-person event of Cobb County Democrats since the pandemic, Micheal had the opportunity to hear from other candidates running in 2022, including Antonio Daza in CD-11 and Holly McCormack in CD-14. Both districts run through Cobb County with Antonio’s also including part of Cherokee.

Cherokee County Democrats Meeting
Micheal will be attending Cherokee County Democrat’s first in-person meeting since COVID-19 in Woodstock. The meeting will discuss upcoming events and candidate forums for municipal elections in the county later this year. If you live in Cherokee county and want to have your voice heard by the party, please make an effort to attend. If you can’t make it, the meetings are held every second Thursday of the month.

Chick-Fil-A Moo've It 5K Race
Micheal will be taking part in a 5K race in Cherokee County at Etowah River Park in Canton. The race is at 8am and will benefit a charity near and dear to Micheal’s heart – Special Olympics of Cherokee County. Since 2014, the Chick-fil-A Moo’ve It 5K has proudly donated over $200,000 to the race beneficiaries.

Candidate Forum and Meet & Greet
Micheal will be among the state and local candidates attending a meet & greet with voters in Ball Ground. The event is sponsored by Cherokee County Farm Bureau, Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, and Cagle’s Family Farm. Homemade ice cream will be served by Boy Scout Troop #465. Soft drinks, water and peanuts will be provided by the Bureau.

Volunteering for Priscilla Smith (GA HD 34)
Micheal participated in over 15 shifts of door to door canvassing for Priscilla Smith, the Democratic candidate in the runoff to replace Bert Reeves in the special election. Unfortunately, Priscilla lost her election, but she defied the odds in even making it into the runoff. Micheal gained valuable experience in learning field operations, meeting voters, and campaign strategy. And he established valuable relationships with talented, young operatives in the Party.

Heather Kilpatrick CD11 Kickoff Cookout
Micheal and daughter Emma attended the the kickoff cookout for Heather Kilpatrick, one of three candidates running for U.S. House District 11 currently held by Barry Loudermilk. Her district does run through District 46, mainly north of Jamerson Road and up into Woodstock. Micheal has worked with a few people on her campaign over the last month, and they’re good people. Marietta Let Freedom Ring Parade
Micheal was honored to participate in carrying the Cobb Democrats banner during the annual 4th of July parade in Marietta. He joined dozens of Democrats in the the largest public gathering in Marietta since Chalktoberfest in 2019, according to Chuck McPhilamy, spokesman for the Marietta Police Department. This year’s grand marshal was “the essential worker,” and teachers, first responders, hospital workers and public health officials led the procession.

Annual July 4th Herb Butler Celebration
Micheal attended the Annual July 4th Herb Butler Celebration hosted by Cobb County Democrats. Many officials in office and seeking office were there, including U.S. House Representative Lucy McBath, Erick Allen, Jen Jordan, Priscilla Smith, and more. It was a great first in-person event for Cobb Democrats since COVID-19 and energized everyone looking to turn state government blue in 2022.
